A Little Honesty

This is about my journey, and it’s ups and downs.  So here’s a little honesty.  When I’m struggling, it helps to see that others have gone through the same thing.  Especially when I can look ahead and see that they have gotten through it, and made it to the other side.  Or what seems like the other side when you are sitting on the couch in your sweats eating cadbury mini eggs and feeling more bloated and gross by the minute, and yet you can’t stop…..

A few weeks back, we had some friends visit.  I cannot tell you how proud I was of us…we did so great eating well the whole time they were here.  We made sushi at home and I treated them to my special dessert.  Now fast forward to our trip to Iowa City a week and a half ago.  Epic fail.  It’s not that we ate so horribly.  We stayed away from beef, didn’t eat a ton of calories…but somehow, it was the downfall.  Since then, it has been excuse after excuse, somehow not feeling guilty about eating a little of this, a little of that.  I can’t even think back and pinpoint the mistakes I’ve made.  Except maybe the mini eggs.  But after pizza at the inlaws and fried chicken and mashed potatoes from the deli….anytime we are out of the house, which has been a lot lately, has been a chance to forsake our new ways and fail.  And that’s how I have felt, like a total failure.

Today, however, as I polished off that bag of mini eggs, I remembered that the point of this wasn’t to make a 180 degree turn and completely change everything all at once, and never look back.  We have made serious strides!  We have been doing so well!  Yes, we have a long way to go, but YES!!!  We have come so far!  In such a short amount of time.  It’s important I think to take the time to see where you have been, and realize that you have moved, you have changed.  Change is constant.  So when you feel you have slipped off the track, acknowledge the steps it takes to get back on it, and on the road to where you want to be.  Set small goals along the way, and reward yourself when you meet them.

So tomorrow I’m back to oatmeal in the morning with my coffee, a salad for lunch, and some sort of concoction for supper.  With an afternoon snack.  Posting it on here means I have to do it, right?  😉
