DIY >> Make Your Own Workout Shirt

I found this on Pinterest recently:

It’s from Rabbit Food for My Bunny Teeth (which is a pretty cool website) and I just had to try it.  I’ve been trying to figure out what on EARTH to wear while running.  I can’t wear those cool running tanks or shirts that are all “dry-fit-wick-away-your-sweat-and-such-pretty-colors” because they very much accentuate the flab.  It’s just not comfortable.  Not there yet.  But big old baggy t-shirts are annoying.  As are the farmer’s tan I’m getting on my arms.  So I was super stoked to come across this!  Since Jon and I have both been losing weight, we have a lot of t-shirts we can destroy in attempts to make something better of them.  YAY!

The website said to use a large shirt, so I used one of Jon’s too-big t-shirts.  It’s still too big.  My first attempt at this turned out usable and ok…but I’m not gonna post pics.  Maybe next time.  You can check out the above pic and the website if you want more info on the how-to.  Let’s just say it’s a great idea, and I wouldn’t use a perfectly fitting shirt, definitely go a little bigger….but don’t go too big.  I look redonkulous in it.  And yet I still wear it.  Bahaha!  Because I don’t care that much!  Comfort is key when running for me.  So I will attempt this again if my kids ever nap at the same time again and maybe if it turns out better, I’ll take some pics too.   In the meantime, it’s a great way to use a t-shirt that you don’t use anyway!

DIY >> Mason Jars for Tea and Coffee

I LOVE tea.  I love to drink tea and curl up with a book and feel smart.  I like to drink tea when I’m reading something that makes me feel smart, like one of my many history books.  Unfortunately, I buy much more than I actually drink.  With two toddlers, I don’t get much “me” time!  So I’ve got this huge amount of tea.  And when it’s in the box, in the pantry, I don’t see it or think of it much.  So a quick fix?  I’ve had these cool jars for awhile that I had gotten at estate sales and never used for anything.  I cleaned them up and stuffed one with my favorite kinds of tea and filled the other with coffee beans.  Which I use a lot of daily!  They look nice in my kitchen and now I have used the jars and put the tea and coffee front and center.  I will drink more tea, and I won’t have to fish around for my bag of coffee beans, which I don’t want on the counter.  Now I have a nice jar with beautiful, wonderful smelling coffee beans just ready to be ground and used right by my coffee maker.  Yum!  Pretty!  And, even better, quick!

DIY >> Decorate Your Dishes

Here’s a fun thing to do if you like to add your own flair to things!

I was bored today, and I love looking at pinterest for great do-it-yourself ideas. I found an article about drawing with ink on a mug…well I had these sharpie oil paint pens, so I used that instead.  This is something that doesn’t take much time, and is pretty fun and easy. Decorate your dishes! Today I did a couple mugs, later I will do the plates too! We have had this dish set since we were married 8 years ago, and I was feeling the need for a change. I had the necessary tools on hand thanks to our photography packaging projects.

So here’s what you need:
Mugs or dishes with a smooth area to draw on
A pencil
Sharpie oil paint pen(s)

First make sure your surface is clean and smooth.

Next draw your design on with pencil. It makes step three much easier and will make you more confident with the paint.

Lastly, draw over the pencil with the sharpie oil paint pen. I used a gold colored one. Make sure you let it dry as you go so you don’t rub it off with your fingers or table. Once you are done, let it dry very well. I let mine dry over night just to be safe.

Once it is all done and dry, it is ready to use and should be safe to hand-wash. I ran them through the dishwasher  and they were fine, but I would recommend hand washing for longevity. Enjoy your “new” dishes! Everything is more fun with sharpies!
